Penagos eco-pulper
Dukunde Kawa · Nkara · 1,240 member farmers
Separates cherry from parchment cleanly and uses about 80% less water than the station's current hand-cranked unit.
Nkara sells most of its crop as raw cherry. With a proper pulper the station can deliver graded parchment — several times the price per kilo of the same coffee, every harvest.
The station
A co-operative of smallholders on the ridges above Gakenke, washing Red Bourbon at 1,900 m. Members deliver cherry by foot; the station has never had the capital to buy a modern pulper.
